EDSPC 701 Observation Assignments

During your 20 hours of observation, undertake these tasks and write up a detailed report.  Write up only those tasks that you were able to complete during the 20 hours.  If you participated in the classroom, you will also write up how you assisted and what you learned from the experiences.

1. What assessment devices, if any, were stored in the classroom?

2. During your observation time(s), which types of assessment did you witness (e.g., test on instructional unit, spelling test, pop quiz, end of lesson comprehension questions, teacher questioning before or after lesson, etc.)

3. Observe a lesson. Did the teacher assess student learning during the lesson? How so? What questions (if any) were asked by the teacher at the end of the lesson (to assess the knowledge gained)? Was the knowledge base of ALL students assessed or did the teacher merely accept answers only from a few students? What questions would you have asked of the students to assess their learning of the presented material?

4. Conduct behavioral recording (frequency count) on a student behavior. Identify and define the behavior, count the number of occurrences, and compute the number of times per time period (minute, hour, class period). For more information, click on the "Behavioral recording" link on the home pageof www.BehaviorAdvisor.com

5. If appropriate, ask the teacher if it is OK to view his/her grade book. What assessment data is contained therein? (e.g., test scores, attendance, behavior grades, notations, etc)

6. If appropriate, ask the teacher which modifications s/he makes in his/her evaluation/testing of students with learning disabilities or limited English proficiency.
