Listening:
    -wait turn
    -show respect to the speaker (only positive verbal sounds uttered)
    -give eye contact
    -lean forward
    -keep your head up
    -be able to paraphrase the speakers message and comment upon it respectfully
 

Following Directions:
    -listen carefully to the directions (see task analysis of "listening" above)
    -restate the directions either out loud or to myself
    -clarify the directions if necessary
    -attempt to follow the directions
    -ask for assistance if necessary (this behavior may also need to be taught)
 

Respecting the opinions of others:
    -Make an empathy statement:
            ~"I know that you fell that way, but..."
            ~"I can see how you would think that, however..."
    -Make a respectful statement of your feelings
            ~"This really gets my goat."
            ~"It's frustrating to have my views distorted."
    -Disagree respectfully
            ~I view it differently..."
            ~"The way I see it, the truth of the matter is that..."
