Great Books For Parents Of Kids Who Need To Learn To Make Better Behavior Choices

This classic book, as useful today as when it was first published in the early 1980's provides parents with "Nice ways" to gain compliance from their children.  Along with easy-to-read chapters are cartoons showing common ineffective phrasing used by parents, followed by images showing more effective ways of saying things.  In my mind, this is the best parenting book on the market when it comes to how WE can change our ways to help our kids behave better. We can move from being boss and disciplinarian to mentor and teacher. You can be pleasant and effective at the same time.

Assertive Discipline for Parents provides a systematic approach full of dynamic, simple to use strategies that puts you back in the captain's chair. This book shows you how to be firm and directive while also being compassionate and supportive.  It's an especially good book for "wimpy" parents who have problems "standing up" to their children, but it's also a wonderful resource for those parents who find themselves yelling and hitting/spanking due to their frustration from not knowing what else to do.  The Assertive Discipline system gives parents things to say and do that are firm, but loving.  Kids view the new system as being fair and reasonable, thus they abide by it.

A Book For Kids Who Need To Make Better Behavior Choices

It's the only book written FOR KIDS who need to learn how to make better choices when it comes to their actions.  It's written on a 4th grade reading level,  but you can read it with youngsters who don't yet read at that level. For proficient readers, you can assign readings and activities, or just leave it on the coffee table for curious eyes. (The cover is captivating to kids.)  Cartoons and sensitive writing help to motivate kids to try the new ways.
